Displays in the Museum

The museum is housed in one of the two original buildings on the site. It has a very comprehensive group of displays and time in the museum is an integral part of educational visits to the Centre. Outside the museum and in front of the residential building is the geological garden with specimens of local rocks.

The ground floor of the museum houses a series of displays, a selection of which are illustrated in the pictures below. There is also a publications and sales desk. Displays continue up the staircase and onto the top floor where there is also a workroom that can be used by study groups and for small meetings.

The Geological Garden

Around the Centre, there are several display boards explaining particular features. In the courtyard outside the museum is a Geological garden with one of these display panels, identifying the rocks in the garden, all of which are local to the local area, including Dartmoor. This unique feature supports the explanations about the origins, 3-400 million years ago, of the local limestone, shales, tuff and granite, explained during the educational visits to the Centre.
